ABOUT DANICA RAMLJAK

Danica Ramljak received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (1982) and Master's degree (1994) at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb. In 1987 she received the US Department of Agriculture Cochran scholarship for research at the Russel Research Center in Athens, Georgia where she spent five years.  She received her Ph.D. at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb in 1992. In 1993 she  joined the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-National Cancer Institute, US  as a postdoctoral fellow and studied the molecular mechanisms of tumor development. 

 In 1999 she became a researcher and lecturer at the Lombardi Cancer Center, School of Medicine, Georgetown University in Washington, DC., where she continued to focus on preclinical models of human tumors. In 2003 Dr. Ramljak started a career in scientific management, involving preparation, writing and coordination of international research projects funded by the NIH and the European Commission. She served as a consultant to both academic, research and industrial organizations in collaborative joint projects focused on development of novel technologies.

 Dr. Ramljak is a reviewer for several scientific journals and serves as an expert reviewer for EU funded projects. She has organized or co-organized several international high level conferences focused on collaboration between the US and European countries in cancer research and biotechnology. From May 2009 till April 2012 Dr. Ramljak has served as Director-General of the Ruđer Bošković Institute, the largest and most prestigious natural science research institution in Croatia. From 2012 she serves as a science and innovation expert on the World Bank funded innovation projects in different European countries. Since July 2015 she serves as a Senior Management Advisor at the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education (MSE) on the Science and Technology Project II that is being jointly implemented by the MSE and the World Bank. Dr. is an Interim Director of the Regional Innovation Center WISE, Split.
